Today, Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin held a meeting with Kuwait’s Ambassador to Malaysia, Rashed M R Al-Saleh to discuss Malaysia’s interest in acquiring fighter jets from the Kuwait Air Force (KAF).
This meeting, conducted at the Defence Ministry served as a follow-up to Khaled’s official visit to Kuwait in early October where he engaged in discussions with key government officials including the Prime Minister and the Deputy Prime Minister, who also serves as the Defence and Interior Minister.
During his visit, Khaled toured the Ahmad Al-Jaber Air Base which is home to the squadron operating the KAF’s F/A-18C/D Legacy Hornet fighter jets. This experience provided him with valuable insights into the capabilities of these aircraft and their operational significance within the Kuwaiti military.
Khaled emphasized that the potential acquisition of these fighter jets would significantly enhance the operational capabilities and readiness of the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF). Strengthening Malaysia’s air defense capabilities is a strategic priority and the integration of advanced fighter jets is seen as a vital step towards achieving this goal.
The discussions with Kuwait’s leadership indicate a positive trajectory for defense cooperation between the two nations, particularly in the realm of military aviation. This ongoing dialogue underscores Malaysia’s commitment to modernizing its military assets and ensuring national security in an increasingly complex regional environment.
