KOTA BHARU: The number of flood victims housed in two relief centres in Kelantan remains unchanged at 76 this morning. The evacuees, comprising 19 families, are currently taking shelter in two locations across two districts.
Forty-four individuals are being accommodated at SMK Bachok, while the remaining 32 are at SK Gual Tok Deh in Rantau Panjang.
The flood situation showed slight improvement this morning, with light rain falling across the state since last night. The water level of the Golok River, which forms the border between Malaysia and Thailand, has also receded.
Flooding, often caused by heavy rainfall, frequently forces residents living near rivers to evacuate their homes and leads to the closure of schools and roads.
The Malaysian Meteorological Department has predicted that the northeast monsoon, which began on November 5, will continue until March 2025. During this period, Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang, Johor, Sarawak, and Sabah are expected to experience five to seven episodes of heavy rainfall.
