The Malaysian Prisons Department has dismissed claims circulating on social media alleging that an inmate had escaped from Sungai Udang Prison in Melaka, confirming that no such incident had taken place. Authorities described the viral information as false and urged the public not to spread unverified claims that could cause unnecessary concern.
According to the department, security at Sungai Udang Prison remains fully under control, with all inmates accounted for. Officials stressed that prison operations are continuing as normal and there has been no breach involving an inmate escaping from custody.
The clarification comes after recent enforcement actions at the prison, including the successful prevention of an attempt to smuggle prohibited items into the facility using a drone. The department said the incident was swiftly detected through its security monitoring system, leading to a police investigation and the arrest of two suspects.
The Prisons Department also reminded the public to rely only on official statements for accurate information and to avoid sharing unverified reports on social media. It warned that spreading false information could create unnecessary panic and interfere with public confidence in the country’s correctional institutions.
