KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 14 Malaysians were arrested overseas for drug-related offences during the first seven months of this year, highlighting the serious risks associated with international drug trafficking.
Authorities have warned Malaysians to remain vigilant and avoid being deceived by syndicates that may offer attractive payments, free travel or employment opportunities in exchange for carrying luggage or packages across international borders.
The public is also advised never to carry items belonging to strangers without knowing exactly what they contain, as drug trafficking offences can carry extremely severe penalties in several countries.
Malaysian authorities continue to cooperate with their foreign counterparts to combat transnational drug trafficking and prevent Malaysians from being recruited as drug couriers.
