KUALA LUMPUR: Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas) has officially lifted the force majeure on gas supply to its MLNG Dua liquefaction terminal in Bintulu, Sarawak, effective November 1.
According to the Cambridge Dictionary, force majeure refers to unforeseen events, such as war, crime, or natural disasters, which prevent parties from fulfilling contractual obligations. Petronas had declared force majeure in October 2022 due to a gas pipeline leak caused by soil movement along the Sabah-Sarawak pipeline, impacting its delivery commitments to some contracted LNG buyers. Petronas was engaged in discussions to identify appropriate mitigation measures.
In a recent statement, Petronas announced the force majeure lift following the successful commissioning of two new gas fields in Sarawak—Jerun and Kasawari—providing a stable source of feedgas.
“Petronas extends its gratitude to its stakeholders, partners, and customers for their trust and cooperation during this time. Moving forward, Petronas reaffirms its commitment to fulfilling contractual obligations and ensuring a stable, reliable LNG supply to meet customers’ energy needs,” the company stated.
