Six members of the Malaysian Battalion (Malbatt) 850-12, who were injured in an explosion near Saida Stadium, Lebanon, are now safe at Camp Marakah. The incident occurred while the convoy was traveling from Beirut to Marakah Camp. The explosion took place at 7:54 pm Malaysian time (1:54 pm Lebanese time) as the convoy, part of the United Nations peacekeeping mission, moved through the area.
A statement from the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) confirmed that the convoy reached the camp at around 5:30 pm local time with five of the six injured members arriving with the group. One member, treated at Hamood Hospital was discharged early on November 8. The remaining injured personnel will continue to receive care from Malbatt 850’s medical officers at Camp Marakah. They will resume their duties once they have fully recovered.
The attack occurred just after Malbatt 850-12, a 220-member team, arrived in Lebanon to continue its peacekeeping duties under the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL). UNIFIL is investigating the incident, and the ATM will monitor the situation closely through the Joint Headquarters. Further updates will be provided as necessary.
The Malaysian Armed Forces reaffirmed their commitment to the safety of their personnel deployed on peacekeeping missions and emphasized that the planned rotation of Malbatt 850-11 and Malbatt 850-12 troops will proceed as scheduled. The second group of Malbatt 850-12 consisting of 219 members is set to depart on November 10 to continue the mission.
