KOTA BHARU: Malaysia has deployed approximately 100 members of the elite Senoi Praaq unit from the General Operations Force (GOF) to enhance security along the southern Thailand border.
“The deployment of the Senoi Praaq team will assist the state contingent in securing the border, particularly in curbing illegal activities,” said Kelantan police chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat.
The Senoi Praaq, named after Malaysia’s indigenous Senoi people, combines the term “Praaq,” meaning “warrior” in their language. Trained in jungle navigation, tracking, and unconventional warfare, they excel in counter-insurgency operations, especially in the rugged Malaysia-Thailand border terrain.
Mohd Yusoff noted that the unit would be stationed at strategic points to reinforce security along the border, which spans over 500 kilometers.
This area, characterized by dense forests, rivers, and remote locations, presents significant challenges for border control and is prone to cross-border crimes such as drug smuggling, human trafficking, and illegal trade.
