Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has criticised international institutions for what he described as their failure to stop Israel’s actions in the region.
Speaking at a conference in Tehran held in memory of former Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, Pezeshkian said global bodies and human rights organisations should have acted to prevent such incidents. Instead, he claimed that political and logistical support had continued to be given despite Israel openly discussing killings and targeted attacks.
He also accused Israel of attacking several countries in the region and contributing to instability across West Asia. Pezeshkian said Islamic countries had not started such acts of aggression and stressed the need for stronger unity among Muslim nations.
The Iranian president added that the current leadership carries a major responsibility to strengthen Islamic solidarity and continue efforts to uphold the goals of Iran’s revolution.
His remarks came as funeral ceremonies for Khamenei began in Tehran, with thousands gathering at Imam Khomeini Mosalla Mosque to pay their final respects.
According to the report, Khamenei was killed in a joint US-Israel attack on Iran on 28 February, which led to weeks of conflict before a ceasefire was reached through Pakistan’s mediation in April, followed by a temporary agreement in June.
