Security has been stepped up around England’s team hotel in Mexico City ahead of their FIFA World Cup 2026 Round of 16 match against Mexico at the Azteca Stadium.
FIFA approved road closures near the hotel after concerns that Mexico supporters could disrupt the players’ rest. Fans were also kept around 200 metres away from the area.
This came after videos showed some supporters playing loud music and setting off fireworks outside the hotel before police intervened.
England had hoped to keep their hotel location private, but fans still managed to find the squad. Manager Thomas Tuchel said the team were prepared for possible disturbance, with players expected to use earplugs before the match.
