KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 3 — Former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak has been described as the mastermind behind the 1MDB fraud, which allegedly caused the state investment fund to suffer losses amounting to US$5.64 billion, according to lawyers representing 1MDB.
During court proceedings, 1MDB’s legal team argued that Najib played a central role in orchestrating the fraudulent scheme, which they said resulted in massive financial losses to the company. The submissions were made as part of the civil action seeking to recover assets and compensation linked to the scandal.
The lawyers told the court that the evidence presented showed Najib’s involvement in key decisions that enabled the alleged misappropriation of funds. They maintained that the losses suffered by 1MDB were a direct consequence of the fraudulent activities highlighted throughout the case.
The proceedings remain ongoing, with the court continuing to hear arguments from both parties before reaching a decision. Najib has consistently denied wrongdoing, and the allegations remain subject to the court’s determination
