TEHRAN, Aug. 12 — Iran says the Strait of Hormuz will only be fully reopened if the United States accepts conditions set by Tehran, according to newly appointed Supreme National Security Council secretary Mohsen Rezaei.
Rezaei said Washington must end its war against Iran and its regional allies and release frozen Iranian funds before the strategic waterway can fully reopen. He also said Iran had communicated additional conditions through intermediaries involved in recent indirect talks.
The Strait of Hormuz has faced transit restrictions since early March following US-Israeli attacks on Iran. Rezaei added that any separate agreement between Iran and Oman over transit routes would not change Tehran’s decision on whether to reopen the strait.
The development keeps the strategic waterway at the centre of ongoing regional tensions and diplomatic negotiations.
