MANCHESTER: Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has been crowned the Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) Player of the Year for the 2025/26 season after an outstanding Premier League campaign.
The 31-year-old Portugal international set a new Premier League record with 21 assists, surpassing the previous mark shared by Arsenal legend Thierry Henry and former Manchester City star Kevin De Bruyne. Fernandes also scored nine goals during the season.
His performances played a major role in helping Manchester United recover from a difficult start and eventually finish third in the Premier League under Michael Carrick, securing a return to the UEFA Champions League for the following season.
The PFA honour capped an impressive individual season for Fernandes, who had also been named the Football Writers’ Association (FWA) Player of the Year in May. He described the award as especially meaningful because it was voted for by fellow professional players.
In the women’s category, Khadija Shaw of Manchester City won the PFA Player of the Year award for the second time, while Nico O’Reilly was named PFA Young Player of the Year.
