BUKIT MERTAJAM: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has stressed that the Madani Government does not support gambling activities and has taken steps to reduce them since taking office.
Anwar, who is also Finance Minister, said the government reduced the number of special forecast-number draws from 22 times a year to eight. He said the reduction was introduced gradually as part of efforts to curb gambling activities in the country.
He also rejected accusations that he supports the gambling industry, saying the higher number of annual draws was already in place under previous administrations. According to Anwar, his government should instead be judged by the measures it has taken to reduce the frequency of such draws.
Anwar made the remarks during the launch of the Skim Usahawan Bangkit (SUB) Madani Permatang Pauh at Dewan Yayasan Aman in Penanti on Saturday, August 29.
