KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 121 Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) worth an estimated RM8 billion have been signed in conjunction with the Malaysia Agriculture, Horticulture and Agrotourism Exhibition 2026 (MAHA 2026). Of the total value, around RM4 billion involves China, while the remainder comes from partnerships with other countries.
Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu said the agreements cover areas such as capacity building, farmer training, Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), as well as opportunities to export Malaysian agri-food products overseas. The MAHA Go Global initiative is also being used to expand the reach of local products, particularly into West Asian and Eastern European markets.
Malaysia is looking to further strengthen exports of products such as pineapples and durians. Mohamad said Malaysian pineapple exports have already exceeded RM1 billion, while China’s durian market continues to offer significant growth opportunities. MAHA 2026 is also focusing on creating higher-value downstream products instead of relying mainly on the export of raw agricultural goods.
Running from August 28 to September 6 at MAEPS, Serdang, MAHA 2026 features participation from 14 countries and highlights the modernisation of agriculture through technology and innovation under the theme “Value Creation for Food Security.”
