Selangor police are tracking down 10 suspects to assist investigations into two separate group fights in Alam Megah and Sri Muda, both believed to involve elements of gangsterism. One of the incidents resulted in the death of a 23-year-old local man.
Selangor Police Chief Datuk Shazeli Kahar said the two cases were unrelated. The fatal incident in Alam Megah on August 25 is believed to have stemmed from a territorial dispute, while the Sri Muda case, in which a man was injured after being attacked by a group, was believed to have resulted from a misunderstanding. Weapons believed to be machetes were used, while the victim was also threatened with an object resembling a pistol.
Police operations resulted in the arrest of 21 local men aged between 23 and 46 at several locations in Selangor and Johor. Authorities also seized seven machetes, an iron hammer, two cable cutters, a steering lock, nine cars, three motorcycles and several mobile phones.
Eight suspects have been charged under Sections 302/149 of the Penal Code in connection with the fatal case, while four others were charged under Section 148 over the incident involving injuries. Police are still searching for seven suspects linked to the fatal case and three linked to the injury case.
Police stressed that they would continue taking firm action against gangsterism to protect public safety and order in Selangor.
