LONDON: Premier League champions Arsenal have completed the signing of Brazilian midfielder Bruno Guimaraes from Newcastle United on a long-term deal.
The 28-year-old has signed a four-year contract with an option for an additional season. British media reports have estimated the transfer fee at around US$101.16 million. Arsenal described Guimaraes as one of the Premier League’s most influential midfielders.
Arsenal Sporting Director Andrea Berta highlighted the Brazilian’s versatility, noting his ability to operate as both a defensive midfielder and a box-to-box player. The club believes his arrival will give manager Mikel Arteta greater tactical options while increasing competition within the squad.
Guimaraes joined Newcastle from Olympique Lyonnais in January 2022 and went on to make 195 appearances across all competitions, scoring 31 goals. He also captained Newcastle to the 2025 League Cup, helping the club secure its first major domestic trophy in 70 years.
His departure adds to a period of major change at Newcastle following the exits of Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali, as well as manager Eddie Howe, who has been replaced by German coach Matthias Jaissle.
