WASHINGTON: The FIFA World Cup generated more than US$18 billion for the United States economy and supported over 160,000 jobs, according to US President Donald Trump.
Trump highlighted the tournament’s economic impact in a post on Truth Social, saying the global football event delivered a major boost to economic activity and employment in the country.
The United States, Mexico and Canada jointly hosted the FIFA World Cup from June 11 to July 19, 2026, bringing teams and supporters from around the world across the three host nations.
The tournament was one of the biggest international sporting events staged across North America, with its economic contribution extending beyond football through tourism, hospitality and related industries.
