The Fire and Rescue Department of Malaysia is strengthening its assets and logistics to prepare for possible hot and dry weather linked to El Nino from November to January.
JBPM director-general Datuk Seri Nor Hisham Mohammad said the department is focusing on readiness for potential forest fires, peat fires and haze during prolonged dry conditions.
To improve operations, JBPM is expected to receive 200 Light Operations Vehicles, while 26 drones are already being used to monitor fire locations and support planning. Two additional helicopters are also expected by the end of November to boost aerial monitoring and firefighting work.
JBPM has also identified 183 high-risk locations that require close monitoring, especially areas that could become hotspots during dry weather.
