ISKANDAR PUTERI: Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) striker Bergson da Silva believes the team’s impressive 3-3 draw against English Premier League giants Chelsea showed the true character of the Southern Tigers ahead of the 2026/2027 season.
Bergson, who was among JDT’s goalscorers in the international friendly at Sultan Ibrahim Stadium, said the Malaysian champions have never been afraid to test themselves against bigger opponents. He added that JDT once again demonstrated their ability to surprise top teams, whether playing at home or away.
The 35-year-old Brazilian striker, who is preparing for his sixth season with JDT, said he has not set any specific personal targets. Instead, his focus remains on working hard, taking each challenge as it comes and helping the club achieve further success. Bergson noted that few expected JDT to hold Chelsea to a draw — and the team even came close to winning the match.
Bergson is also pleased with his preparations for the new campaign after completing the entire pre-season programme, unlike last season when injuries limited his involvement. He believes the uninterrupted preparation has helped him develop better chemistry with JDT’s new players ahead of their first competitive fixture.
