KUALA LUMPUR: Palestinians in Gaza flew 69 kites from the Gaza coast as a gesture of appreciation and affection for Malaysians in conjunction with Malaysia’s 69th National Day.
According to non-governmental organisation Cinta Gaza Malaysia (CGM), the kites carried messages of gratitude to Malaysians for their continued support for the Palestinian people, particularly those in Gaza.
In a video shared from Gaza, a CGM activist thanked Malaysians and expressed hopes that Malaysia would remain an independent, dignified and peace-loving nation. The gesture also touched many Malaysians online, who responded with messages of solidarity and prayers for Palestinians.
CGM said the video was recorded before Israeli authorities issued renewed warnings over kite and balloon activities in Gaza. The report said Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz warned that areas where such objects were launched could face action, leading some parents in Gaza to stop their children from flying kites.
