KUALA LUMPUR: Police have uncovered a fake letter falsely signed under the name of Inspector-General Tan Sri Razarudin Husain.
According to the Bukit Aman Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID), a police report has been filed regarding the letter, which falsely claimed to be issued by the “Central Office to Combat Information Technology and Communications-based Crime.” The letter accused the recipient of being involved in legal proceedings for possessing child pornography and threatened arrest if they did not contact the sender immediately.
Federal CCID director Datuk Seri Ramli Mohamed Yoosuf stated that the letter featured Malaysia’s coat of arms and the Malaysian Bar Council logo. It was also signed with a name resembling the Inspector-General’s but listed a different position.
“We confirm the letter and its contents are fake,” Ramli said in a statement, clarifying that no government agency issued such a document. He added that an investigation under Section 465 of the Penal Code for forgery has been initiated.
Ramli urged the public to ignore such letters, whether received in person, via email, or WhatsApp, and to avoid responding to the sender.
He warned that the document was likely created to cause panic and scam or extort money from recipients. Victims of this scam are encouraged to lodge police reports immediately.
