Kuala Lumpur: Police shot dead four Vietnamese men linked to nearly 50 safe-cracking cases since 2018 in a raid at a high-rise unit on Jalan Imbi around 11:30 pm yesterday. City police chief Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa reported that the suspects, all in their 40s, fired at the City Criminal Investigation Department officers, leading to a shoot-out in which the suspects were killed at the scene.
Initial investigations show the suspects had entered and exited Malaysia multiple times, amassing an estimated RM4.3 million from their break-ins. The men targeted vacant homes and offices to access safes, with their most recent case believed to have occurred in Sri Hartamas two days prior.
The suspects had been active since 2018 and were challenging to apprehend, operating only at night and leaving no traces. CCTV footage of their activities also proved challenging for identification due to their foreign status.
Rusdi stated that police are now tracking down other members of this criminal ring, while the bodies have been sent to Hospital Kuala Lumpur for a post-mortem examination.
