The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a warning for thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds across Kuala Lumpur and parts of nine states until 9pm tonight.

The nine states affected are Kedah, Perak, Terengganu, Pahang, Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, Johor, Sarawak and Sabah. The warning covers selected districts and areas within these states.

MetMalaysia’s thunderstorm warnings are issued when there are signs of thunderstorms with rainfall intensity exceeding 20mm per hour, either occurring or expected to persist for more than an hour.

The public, particularly motorists and those involved in outdoor activities, are advised to remain alert as heavy rain and strong winds could result in reduced visibility, flash flooding and hazardous road conditions.

Residents in affected areas should continue monitoring official weather updates and take appropriate precautions as conditions can change rapidly during thunderstorms.
