BANGKOK: Malaysia had to settle for second place in the men’s team regu event at the King’s Cup Sepak Takraw World Championship, extending the country’s 38-year wait for a gold medal in the event.
The national squad put up a determined fight in the final but were unable to overcome hosts and traditional powerhouse Thailand, who once again proved their strength on the international stage.
Despite missing out on the championship, Malaysia’s journey to the final demonstrated the team’s competitiveness and determination against some of the world’s strongest sepak takraw nations.
The silver-medal finish provides valuable experience for the national players as they continue working towards closing the gap with Thailand and ending Malaysia’s long wait for King’s Cup glory.
