MALAYSIA REMAINS FIRM ON RECOVERING 1MDB ASSETS, NOTES RM4.2 BILLION CLAIM AGAINST DBS

Malaysia remains committed to recovering assets linked to 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) and will continue pursuing funds believed to have been misappropriated from the state investment company.

The government said it has taken note of a RM4.2 billion claim involving Singapore-based DBS Bank, which forms part of ongoing efforts connected to the recovery of assets and funds associated with the 1MDB scandal.

Malaysia stressed that its asset-recovery efforts are being pursued through the appropriate legal and regulatory processes, including cooperation with authorities and relevant parties in other jurisdictions.

The government’s position remains that assets or money proven to have originated from 1MDB and unlawfully transferred elsewhere should ultimately be returned to Malaysia, regardless of where those assets are located.

The latest development reflects Malaysia’s continuing efforts to recover billions of ringgit linked to 1MDB while ensuring that any claims or proceedings are handled according to the applicable laws and established legal processes.
