The Enforcement Agency Integrity Commission (EAIC) has recommended that the Home Ministry and National Registration Department review the full citizenship process and documents involving seven naturalised Malaysian football players.
The recommendation was made after an EAIC special task force investigated complaints related to the approval of citizenship for the players. The investigation involved the National Registration Department and Immigration Department, which are responsible for processing entry permits and citizenship applications.
EAIC said its findings showed irregularities in the process, including issues linked to entry permits, interviews, security screening and Malay language tests.
The commission also suggested that KDN and JPN create clearer guidelines and specific standard operating procedures for citizenship approvals under Article 19(2) of the Federal Constitution.
EAIC said citizenship through naturalisation involves national interest and security, and therefore must be handled carefully, transparently and according to proper procedures. The investigation report has been submitted to KDN, JPN and the Immigration Department for further action.
