KUALA LUMPUR – Football fans will be able to watch the 2026 FIFA World Cup final live on a giant screen at Dataran Merdeka in the early hours of Monday.
Kuala Lumpur Police Chief Datuk Fadil Marsus said the screening will be one of the main highlights of the Unity Merdeka programme, organised by the police in collaboration with 16 ministries. Activities will begin at 8pm on Sunday before culminating with the live broadcast of the final.
Organisers hope the event will attract as many as 300,000 people and potentially earn recognition from the Malaysia Book of Records.
The programme, themed “Diversity United, Well-being Sustained,” aims to strengthen unity among Malaysia’s multicultural community through welfare, cultural, educational, religious, family and entertainment activities.
Visitors can also explore exhibitions and interactive booths operated by agencies including the Royal Malaysia Police, Malaysian Armed Forces, Fire and Rescue Department, and Ministry of Health.
Earlier, around 2,000 participants joined a five-kilometre Unity Merdeka fun run aimed at strengthening ties between the police and the local community.
