KUALA LUMPUR, Aug. 7 — Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG) has introduced mandatory drug screening for all 1,260 Malaysia Airlines pilots as part of strengthened measures to safeguard flight operations. The screening process is expected to be completed by 15 August 2026.
Pilots who fail to complete the screening within the required period will not be permitted to operate flights until they are cleared in accordance with MAG procedures and regulatory requirements. The mandatory programme will complement existing random testing and will later be extended to active cabin crew.
The move follows the recent arrest of a Malaysian pilot in Indonesia over a suspected drug-smuggling case. MAG stressed that the individual was travelling in the cockpit jump seat and was not operating the flight, which remained under the control of two qualified pilots.
MAG reiterated its zero-tolerance approach to misconduct, saying operational safety and crew fitness remain priorities as the group continues working with aviation regulators and enforcement agencies to strengthen preventive measures.
