KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has ordered the Immigration Department to conduct an immediate and comprehensive investigation into a fatal crash involving one of its trucks at Jalan Sultan Ismail, Kuala Lumpur, early Wednesday morning.
Anwar said appropriate action must be taken without compromise if the investigation finds any negligence or violation of the law. He also extended his condolences to the family of the three victims who lost their lives in the tragedy.
The incident occurred at about 1am at the Maju Junction traffic light intersection. An Isuzu Black Maria truck belonging to the Kuala Lumpur Federal Territory Immigration Department, which was heading towards Chow Kit, was involved in a collision with two vehicles and four pedestrians.
Three pedestrians from the same family died at the scene, while another family member, aged 55, was injured. Police have detained the 43-year-old Immigration truck driver and a 50-year-old Proton Saga driver to assist with investigations.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
