SEREMBAN – The contest for all 36 seats in the Negeri Sembilan State Legislative Assembly officially begins tomorrow with nomination day, marking the start of a 14-day campaign period.
Prospective candidates will submit their nomination papers at eight nomination centres across the state between 9am and 10am. Election officers will then announce the final list of eligible candidates. Polling day has been fixed for 1 August, while early voting will take place on 28 July.
A total of 889,490 voters are eligible to cast their ballots, including 867,151 ordinary voters, 16,884 military personnel and their spouses, as well as 5,455 police personnel and their spouses.
Pakatan Harapan will contest all 36 seats, fielding 16 candidates from PKR, 11 from DAP and nine from Amanah. Barisan Nasional will compete in 25 constituencies, while Perikatan Nasional has confirmed candidates in 11 seats. Bersatu, meanwhile, plans to contest separately under its own logo. Several smaller parties are also expected to take part, while MUDA, Pejuang and Bersama have decided not to contest.
The Election Commission has advised candidates to check their nomination forms in advance, pay the required deposits early and bring proof of payment when submitting their documents.
The Negeri Sembilan State Assembly was dissolved on 5 June. In the previous state election in 2023, Pakatan Harapan won 17 seats, Barisan Nasional secured 14, and Perikatan Nasional took five.
