UMNO remains committed to maintaining the stability of the Federal Government and respecting the Unity Government Agreement formed following the 15th General Election (GE15), said UMNO Information Chief Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said.
Azalina, who is also Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Law and Institutional Reform), said the agreement was established to ensure political stability throughout the 15th parliamentary term. She stressed that cooperation between different parties can continue while each party maintains its own political identity and position.
She also said political differences at the federal level should be handled maturely so they do not disrupt government administration or undermine public confidence. According to her, the priority should remain on maintaining stability, implementing reform initiatives and putting the welfare of the people first until the end of the parliamentary term.
Addressing claims that UMNO had betrayed PKR during the Johor and Negeri Sembilan state elections, Azalina said such claims should be assessed carefully and based on facts. She pointed out that political cooperation at the state level does not necessarily have to follow the same arrangement at the federal level, as each state has its own political realities and mandate.
Azalina added that the Unity Government should remain focused on fulfilling its commitments to the people during the remainder of the 15th Parliament, in line with the promises made in the respective GE15 manifestos.
