Former national track cyclist Josiah Ng believes it will be almost impossible for Malaysia to find a direct replacement for Datuk Azizulhasni Awang.
Josiah said Azizulhasni, also known as Jijoe, is not only a Malaysian cycling legend but has also set a very high benchmark at the world level. He compared Azizulhasni’s status to other sporting greats, saying legends such as Michael Schumacher, Lewis Hamilton, Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal cannot simply be replaced.
However, Josiah acknowledged that Malaysia still has promising riders such as Muhammad Shah Firdaus Sahrom and Nurul Izzah Izzati, who have shown maturity and achieved success internationally.
He said these athletes have strong potential, but it will take time before anyone can reach the same level as Azizulhasni. According to Josiah, athletes may come and go, but true legends leave a legacy that cannot be easily replaced.
