KUALA LUMPUR, July 29 — Malaysia’s victory over Laos in the ASEAN Cup has given the Harimau Malaya squad a timely confidence boost ahead of its crucial encounter against Thailand, according to former national head coach Tan Cheng Hoe.
Cheng Hoe said securing all three points against Laos was an important step, as it not only strengthened the team’s position in the tournament but also lifted the players’ morale before facing one of the region’s strongest sides.
He noted that the result should help the players approach the Thailand match with greater belief and composure. However, he stressed that Malaysia must remain disciplined, maintain its consistency, and minimise mistakes against a much tougher opponent.
Cheng Hoe also expressed confidence in the team’s ability to compete if they continue to show the same fighting spirit and commitment displayed in the win over Laos. A positive result against Thailand, he added, would significantly strengthen Malaysia’s chances of progressing further in the tournament.
